Week Fourteen - Desert Oasis

 


Sometimes when your plans fall through, the Lord surprises you with something better. Next on our schedule was Petrified Forest NP. It’s the first time we’ve been affected by the government shutdown. The park was closed. We passed Sedona, AZ on the way there and decided to backtrack. I’ve heard about Sedona from several friends and have seen their pictures of this iconic spot, The Devils Bridge (Jeff and I don’t think the devil should get credit for this). Don’t miss the tiny  person on the bridge. 


Jeff had the brilliant idea of making the hike to the bridge shorter.

This place was like an oasis in the desert. 


Our second detour came when Carlsbad Caverns was closed. Guadeloupe NP instead. Here we hiked through the desert to a natural spring - another oasis. We found a little bit of fall color. 


The desert has its beauty but let me tell you we are eastward bound and I’m seeing HOME up ahead! Arkansas here we come. Just a few stops in Texas to see some special people and places (which I’m very excited about, too).

    The scenery has gotten more and more spectacular, from Indiana to the devil’s bridge…I think it would have been less exciting to go the opposite direction, haha. Thanks for the Sunday updates!

    Jeff worked hard and had fun putting together the route and made all the reservations! I’m pretty much along for the ride.

Week One - Goodbye Indiana

 We have officially left Indiana, but our Indiana adventure will never leave us. I never want to forget all that God taught us and did for us in Indiana. The greatest blessing was the people He brought into our lives. He taught me that home is where He is. He showed me how He could provide everything that I needed as I left everything to go where He said to go. So, we didn’t leave Indiana without His clear call. Leviticus 25 is where we heard Him direct us to a Sabbath year and a return to our homeland Arkansas. Week Three - Flowers and Goats

 This week in pictures… I’ve been looking forward to this one stop for a long time. The UP Flower Farm - another Harvest Host that allows RVs to park overnight at their business. It was a young family of six with a flower garden in the front yard. They allow people to pick a bouquet from their garden for $25. They spread a lot of joy to others and put in a good word for Jesus in the process.  Next stop Apostle Islands National Lakeshore - 22 islands in Lake Superior. We took a tour boat to one called Raspberry Island and toured a lighthouse.  Next heading west in the UP was Voyagers National Lakeshore. We heard the majestic sound of loons calling to each other, but missed getting it on video. I did capture two pelicans and an interesting creature at the end of the video.  Overnight stay at an air museum in Minot North Dakota.  We made it to the goat farm in Montana and met the farmer and his wife. Week Two - Up in the UP

 We headed north for several stops in Michigan: Muskegon State Park, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, an overnight stop at a winery (yes, we spent the night in a vineyard), then a quick stop in Mackinaw City to see a friend camping there before crossing the Mackinac bridge into the Upper Peninsula (UP), first stop Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Lake Superior (the largest fresh water lake in the world)! Some highlights… We camped right on the sand dunes of Lake Michigan at Muskegon State Park.  We put our kayaks on the Platte River in Sleeping Bear Dunes and paddled down where it emptied into Lake Michigan.  Harvest Hosts are a network of businesses that allow RV travelers to park at their business overnight for free. This was a winery in Charlevoix MI.  At Pictured Rocks we couldn’t put our kayaks on the rough waters of Lake Superior, but we found beautiful Beaver Lake.  From the campground a view of Lake Superior at sunset.
